Do you find that your makeup gets worse throughout the day? Here are some of my top tips and product recommendations to make your makeup stay put and look fresh throughout the day.
This acts like a base for your foundation and promises to make your foundation look smoother. But I’ve found that this definitely extends the wear of your foundation. It can help to control excess oil later in the day, prevent creases of the foundation and dry patches. So, whilst it seems excessive to use yet another product (after your serum and moisturiser) this can definitely have its benefits. As I have dry skin which is lacking some radiance, I tend to pick a primer which will work to give me a glow, such as the Estee Lauder Illuminating Primer. Whereas if you have oily skin, look for oil-free matte primers such as the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer.
There are lots of foundations on the market that have long lasting wear up to 16 hours. Personally this is the only type of foundation I go for now. One of the best ones I have tried is Estee Lauder Double Wear, which has a very high coverage. For a more lighter coverage, Lancome is a good option. One of my favourites at the moment is the L’Oreal Infallible Total Cover Foundation. This provides great coverage and is such great value at around £10.
If you suffer from dry skin then you may want to avoid this step altogether. But a fine loose powder, such as the popular Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder, is great to make your skin look smoother and sets your makeup. Powders work by smoothing out your makeup and absorbing excess oils so it stays matte all day.
Do you find the concealer under your eyes creases throughout the day? Applying some powder under your eyes will set the concealer ad and prevent it from settling into fine lines.
The final step to ensuring your makeup stays put is using a setting spray. Some setting sprays can also help you to achieve a different look. For example, you can get one to help you get a dewy look or a matte look.
